A survey conducted by Saurashtra University (SU)’s psychology department on people in different age groups found that 45% teenagers were suffering from chronic stress. The figure in this group was the highest among all the age groups assessed.
Psychologists surveyed 243 children aged 10 to 14 years, 152 teenagers between 14 and 17 years, 234 young individuals aged 18 to 45 years, 270 middle-aged individuals, 46 to 60 years of age, and 180 individuals who were 60 plus. Around 45% teenagers, 36% children and 36% youth were found to be victims of long-term stress. For teenagers being affected by stress, the main reason seems to be their age, which is inter-related to their parents’ controlling them during the pandemic. Additionally, restrictions on outdoor activities, being under constant watch and lack of socializing due to closure of schools and colleges led to irritation and panic in them… (ET Healthworld – TNN, July 15, 2021)
